No just swap the flywheel to the light one, but you need to use the right clutch (diaphragm). It doesn't matter what input shaft your gear box have, short or long spline.

Be aware if converting from disc to drum or the other way around for that matter. You can't just move the output hubs around as you please without upsetting the backlash on the crown wheel. You need to use the same hub not to change the backlash.

Viking,
perhaps with the caveat that mixing light flywheel & diaphragm clutch with short splined gearbox will be more prone to clutch judder?
There's only 10mm overlap between the splines in the driven plate and those on the input shaft with that mix, so more chance of the plate wobbling.

That well known 'guru of gearbox' advised me a while ago that it's possible to swap output shaft housings without adjusting the shims, so I've changed some since then without any apparent problems of increased noise or wear.
Didn't Tim also follow that advice when he was having trouble with the gearbox on his Ami a year or so back? :?

Yes you can fit another hub if they have the exact same depth. Any variation will cause the backlash to change by either not enough load on the bearings or the opposite too much load. In any case only recommended if you have the tools to measure and the right shims to correct.
Incorrect load will shift the crown wheel to one side changing the backlash. You can get away with it but not for long.

I had a race car flywheel on the 8 box with no mods, just took the centrifugal clutch off and bolted the other on. didnt leave much spline but worked ok, no judder etc... clutch had to be adjusted a long way though compared to the old clutch and remember to set engine timing before fitting slotted clutch or youl regret it!... did that answer the question or was i rambling?

Playing in the snow we've had today...

This was about ten minutes after I'd got it out the garage, and already I can't see through the windscreen...

The drive had been swept about an hour before this...

I started making the frame for the bed today.

Image

The initial plan was to bin the front bench seat and have some modern folding seats from some poxy 3dr hatchback, but having tacked the frame together it turns out I can slide the bench forward enough that I can actually stretch out in the back. I am intending to have a folding bit at the front of the bed so that the seat can be back for driving and then when it's forward for sleeping/shagging and the bed extended by 8" or so.

With the seat this far forward, there's enough space for me to stretch out in the back, which is all I need really. I reckon it could sleep two, but it's be pretty cosy!

There is one minor problem, which is that it's all tacked up and too big to remove in one, so I'm going to have to have the rear section and front section separate and bolted together.

Has anybody else who's ever used a van as a camper ever done anything regarding insulation? I'm wondering if I should line it with something to keep the heat in? I've been looking at 12v car heaters which seem like a good idea too.

I've got to get all my camping stuff together this week and try and fit it into the car somehow, maybe making some cupboards or storage areas for it all, also, I'd like to incorporate my stereo and a sub into the back of the car somehow.

edit: Thanks Matt, to be honest any sort of coitus is going to be tricky!

I was always warm enough sleeping in the Acadiane with simple camping roll mats glued to the roof. Very basic indeed, but it worked, even in the middle of winter, so anything from that level up and you should be fine.

Camping roll mats were exactly what I was thinking Jono, you can buy car heaters for about £15 which will do to get it toasty if i wake up in the night freezing my nuts off. I should be able to glue the mats to the window panels and the roof which hopefully will make it quieter too.
