As much as james is right there's a lot of free time at uni, I don't think theres any real money in doing 2cvs. Well doing them properly, not with filler.

george,

you could do both...

the amount of time my friends spend being drunk at uni, if you used that time to repair 2cv's youd be more than rich ;)

id go for repairing 2cv's
uni gets you into debt
2cv repair brings some money in

Going to uni in order to access a profession otherwise inaccessible can still make a great deal of sense, and of my school friends who have graduated the vast majority have gone straight into work, either doing phds or in their preferred fields.

That said doing underwater basket weaving at lampeter might not set you up that well for getting a job.

OT, but I want to hear more about the Honda, did you buy it without documents?

No documents, no number plate, nothing. Saw it on ebay, though ooh that's cheap, I'll 'av that

Seems to be working all right, certainly not a looker, but I just want something that will get me from A to be without breaking down or needing to be pedalled up hills... :P

I think I just need to insure it now, then I go up to the DVLA local office armed with a V765, V55/5, V55/4, certificates of conformity, dating certificates and god knows what else (Probably lots of money).

I've not tried it personally, but a few people around here have and it's been discussed somewhere. I don't think it's too expensive. Seems a bit silly to me, the DVLA know what the number plate should be from the frame number, but they won't tell you, or let you apply for new documents based on it.

Is it the same bike you showed us before, I notice the tank's different, looks like one from a cg125.

Eagle eyes! :P

Same bike different tank - the tank came free with the bike. I just prefer the shape of that one for some reason.
Yes, I'm sure registering it is do-able, it all just seems like a lot more hassle than it ought to be. I'll let you know when it's road legal!
Doing my CBT again on Tuesday, 2 years of bike riding accomplished :D
It seems somewhat illogical that I am allowed to take a pillion passenger on my mobylette, but not the Honda...

I had to do my CBT twice as well, after taking to long to do the test. Lucky you've got a car license, don't know if it's still the same now, but used to be that if you only had a provisional license you had to wait a year between the end of one CBT and the next.

Did the CG tank go straight on? I bought a CB125s tank to go on my CB100 on the basis that all the small Honda frames look the same, not actually tried it yet though, and also thinking about trying one from an early CG. And how did it meet up with the seat, or is it a CG seat too. The square tanks look longer, but not sure if they actually are.

Is the square tank still in good condition? I'm looking for one that's rusted through the bottom that I can cut up and reshape, I've got a tidy one but don't want to cut that up in case it goes horribly wrong.

I haven't failed the CBT (yet!), just my last one expired. I've still been riding my mobylette because of this paragraph on the back of my CBT certificate;

"This certificate also validates, for the life of the license, the full moped entitlement granted with a full car license issued in respect of a practical car test passed on or after 1st of February 2001 if, either:

The car test is passed within 2 years of this certificate being issued, or
The training course was completed after the car test was passed."

:? :? :?

So I think I can ride a moped after the CBT expires, but need to do the CBT again to ride a 125... :?: I dunno, to tired to think tonight

It more or less fitted, I had to shave a bit of the end of the rubber doughnuts to slide it on all right. It's about the right length, fits snugly with the seat, doesn't match perfectly, but well enough for me. I think the seat's original. Oh and the steering thingy caught it slightly at full lock, but I just bent the edge of the tank around a little, and that sorted it.

This tank?

It's got a few dents and scratches, maybe a little rust on the bottom, but I think it's pretty sound. You're welcome to it if you want it - I don't have a fuel tap for it, and I had to break the lock to open it (Opens fine with a screwdriver now).

(Sorry, I'll try and get back to 2cvs soon... :P )
