Post Re: Early Ami
Right my lovelies...
I'm trying to get my welding Mojo back (it would be kinda handy as i have much to do) so be gentle, I am fully aware some of it looks a bit agricultural.
The good news is all this will be hidden when I do the top panel. and there are also these wonderful things called grinders to tickle the rest
Image
The inner is starting to take shape and It now has some edges to weld up to (Still more to cut back on the edge where the seal goes mind)
I made a new internal strengthening peice (The U section bit) and the bulkhead is starting to take shape too.

You may be wondering why some of it is tacked and not seamed... Good question.
Well It is awaiting my special guest to surface on saturday to do a neater job on the more showy bits.

Some say he does not know the meaning of impossable, and some say his hands have built in welding clamps.

All we know is...

Ah not on this occasion, Although he is more than welcome to rock up at some point in the future on this weldathon.
There is plenty of welding to go round and I really dont mind sharing:lol:
and He would be well fed and plyed Beer for his troubles if he did.
However I understand he is up to his armpits in Duroplast at this time :)

The chap in question is someone you probably wont be aquainted with yet, However he is my standby at times like these, when the piles of rust are flying over my shoulder and I start to get scared I call SWAMP.
In all truth not many people know his real name, and only his Mum uses that when he is naughty.
I met Swamp doing the VW thing but like me he can appreciate a bit of non German mad metal.
He has energy and vision I can only dream of possessing, he is also a dab hand with the metal glue.

Its nice to see something going back into it ,and yes Im not going to get all excited about where the welds are not factory. Strong solid and not unsightly where it shows does me.
Hopefully we are building something that will last though, and it will be rustproofed to within an inch of its life when done.

Do the new floorpans have a folded outer edge? ready to spot weld onto the sill panel... i need to order some and sills etc etc etc i may just make my own up as the Ami will not be staying stock.

They are flat with a slight ripple on the outer edge the sils locate over the top of the "floorBOARDS" ;)
