All i wanted was satin metal paint, preferably in grey. Could I find it? no. :)

If you have a local Aldi there will be some in on Sunday for the princely sum of £3.75 a litre.
Water based gloss or satin synthetic in light grey, red, blue, grn, black or white. It's alright too I've used it before.

Should a water based paint be used on metal?

As most cars are painted with it from new, I don't see why not.

It'll be fine :) It should brighten up the interior too.

A load of stuff came from ecas today (ordered yesterday so pretty impressed!). Tonight I'm going to repair the old pancake filter that came with the van. It's proving tricky finding a proper replacement so I'll repair the old one until something better comes along.

I found some fireproof, waterproof, synthetic fiber stuff at work so I'll use that for the filter.

Its 'acoustic cloth' so by no means proper soundproofing. I wanted it cheap in case Hetty leaks and I needed to remove it.

It's this stuff http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACOUSTIC-BLACK-CARPET-CLOTH-BASS-BOX-SHELF-CAR-VAN-TRIM_W0QQitemZ260739430640QQcategoryZ40199QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZm263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D15%26pmod%3D260738410926%26ps%3D50

I figured at that price, if it's good - awesome it was only £3 a meter!!
If it turns out to be rubbish - no matter, it was only £3 a meter!!

That isn't sound proofing, that's the sort of black felt you put on the outside of a subwoofer box.
