Another example of the Gammon Effect (quite close to 'home' for you at the mo') is some people's bidding behaviour on your favourite auction site.

I have seen - repeatedly - people bid a higher amount for an item that is being sold by the same buyer for a lower BIN...

Go figure :(

I think they are bidding themselves to make you think the BIN is a bargain.

That's why I put in the bit about £5000 agreed value in the add. Subliminally it tells people to bid 'till 4,000. And that's because I believe that to be a fair price. If I had put 'Agreed value of 7k' then they would think that £5750 was an absolute bargain, and possibly bid to it.

I'm not out to encourage a higher price, just to restrict them from going silly and paying way too much. As I said I don't agree with all this market price bullshit, and I'm not out for as much as I can make. I'm possibly unique in that although I have no money it still isn't the most important thing to me. All the other folks that say 'money isn't everything' seem to have plenty of it. :?

It's amazing how many people with plenty of money are still not happy.

Well my humble thoughts on this matter are simple. Anyone bidding 4 grand on a collectors 2cv car without viewing it is a piss artist. OK maybe different if its a ferarri or such like. I am maybe completely wrong but thats what occurred to me.

Loved "Gammon Effect" stories, Ive not done much on it, but isnt NLP (Nuro Linguistic Programming) something along those lines ?

By the way we have formed a rota....next time your car is sold, each one of us in turn will bid a winning bid and not turn up or contact you. Dont take it personal, but that way you cant ever sell it. You get to keep it and we get to read more of this stuff on the thread

Hmm...5.30 am and now I fancy some gammon.....ASDA is walkable (too little blood in the wine stream still and day off).....and open 24hrs......watchout little old lady....if you retired to Eastbourne it could happen again !

Thanks O-N

That's because they can afford to say that. I have a friend who earns a lot of money as a director of an environmental consultancy. He often says "the money's not important". Which is interesting, because for me (at the other end of the earnings scale), the money is very important indeed. It's only when there's plenty of whatever commodity "isn't important" that you can dismiss it. When was the last time you thought how important air is?

You are either Mr Big in the dodgy end of the art world or got paid far too much for your nefarious ways.

I think what you have is a facsimile or a reproduction of the Breughell

if not f**k the cars sell that and live out your life in luxury.

;)

I read somewhere that money makes a big difference to your happiness up to a certain level, so up to a earnings level where you have enough to live on in "reasonable" comfort. But earn more than that and it makes no difference to happiness levels. How often do you see expensive cars driven by grumps?

It's exactly that John, and as I noticed it in 1965 does that mean I discovered NLP before Richard Bandler? Hey - he stole my idea.

Sean shit happens to me. It is indeed a print, but did I ever tell you the time I went on holiday for a week in Scotland? I hate Scotland - it always rains on me. The wife and her father made me go...and it rained all week as predicted. Thing is when I got back from Scotland I learned that several Howson's had been stolen from a country house up there that same week, just when I had chosen to sell my 'Howson' replica!

So tell me why they always want more? I've never understood that. Why does Paul McCartney still need income? Or Cowell? Or that little twat who says you're fired! Once a person has way beyond what they could ever spend why keep on making money and pinching pennies? One of us has got it wrong, but I'm still not sure who it is.

I just said this morning that I only seem to serve as an example of what not to do. So maybe they're right...maybe 'greed is good', but I don't see it.
