The rear doors are staying but I'll be taking the exterior handles off and welding the holes up. The interior handles will still work so I'll be able to get out.

Shonky....does that mean "compact and bijou"?

ok for skinny midgets

Seen a really nice camper about 15 years ago, young Swiss chap who worked for Swatch was over in Scotland doing some Uni stuff. had a raised platform with bed, storage underneath one rear door had a small sink fold out type thing the other had a cooker- doors stayed open on stays and a lean too awning completed the deal it was immaculatley done and worked very well. and you didnt have to turf all your gear out into the truck stop/layby when you needed a sleep.

Beat me to it Neil.

shonky [ˈʃɒŋkɪ]
adj -kier Austral and NZ informal
1. of dubious integrity or legality
2. unreliable; unsound
[perhaps from Yiddish shonniker or from sh(oddy) + (w)onky]

Post Re: 1967 Ami6 Break
I made the last two panels at work yesterday and had them shotblasted and primed ready to go in.

I 'borrowed' a tube of bonding sealer stuff from work but it was a bit of a shambles, having stuck the panel in last night the sealer hadn't set even when I got up this morning, so I rang round a few local bodyshops and got muself a tube of the stuff that window fitters fit bonded windsceens into modern cars with.

Image

As you can see, the grey sealer made an almighty mess and didn't do a great job of bonding the panel in, but the new stuff I got has worked much better, and now all four panels are bonded in, they will need another bead of sealant to ensure they are fully waterproof before it's painted but that should be no big problem.

I've removed the rear door handle and if I muster enough enthusiasm later on I'll have a go at closing the holes left by them. although having rear handles would be more practical, I really would like this to look like a van. I think leaving them on will spoil the lines of the car and make it obvious to anybody that it's just an old estate car I glued up the windows on. (which it is, really)

Image

I wish there was a way of making the door gaps a lot smaller or more subtle, but I can't see an easy way of doing that.

I'm thinking about painting the top part of the side of the car in a white colour and having some old skool french style signwriting, or a brand name written on the side, I can't decide what yet though.
