Tut Tut  can't use that in a race car

Yeah, that's why I'd like to know what it's from ;)

I see that our quick release front end is coming on nicely

That's just a little something I chucked together when I built it, I've got better ideas for yours. :ugeek:

Is that the box I gave you? Sorry if it's the wrong one!

I'm thinking of cracking together a one piece front for the bamboo, have you got any pictures of how you've done it Spanners? or is it top secret?

No Russ, that's the 'box that came out of it.

"One piece" front is a doddle on mine-I'll take some photos of it tomorrow geez.

Spanners,
that's definitely a Dyane gearbox you've got there, or the remains of one...
Is the 'no oil' test now complete?
If so, is the box completely shot? :(

ken.

The primary shaft bearing is completely shot in that 'box. It was so noisy that when Brian Damaged and me went to a local classic car do, he could hear my gerabox over his exhaust!!

I'm toying with the idea of trying to learn about repairing gearboxes as I now have at least 2 knackered ones. :(

I can always fit that one in Rachaels' 2CV and have her 2CV one for the racer ;)

No worries, mines just a cut down headlamp bar slotted to fit the "feet" of another old h/lamp bar. Just uses the headlamp bar to "brace" it as you take it all off in one lump. :geek:

I only took it off that way because I couldn't be bothered to cut the tiny cable ties at either end of the spoiler!

Cheers Russ, that's a nice quiet gearbox fitted in the racer now. I've even bothered to put the exhaust back together with a bit of care so that's also quite a bit quieter too. 8-)

Fitted the new flywheel too

As for the "one-piece" front end, here's a couple of photos to show the simplicity Russ

Apart from the wiring, and relocating the coil, I guess you could weld the wings onto the headlamp bar, and the A panels onto the wings, then do something similar to what you've done there with a bit of 25x25rhs and 30x30rhs sleeved with a bolt through, so you just undo them, and the bulkhead and rearmost nuts and it all comes off.

I'm well tempted to do something like that.

Also, is it my imagination or would I be right in thinking that the thread on the input shaft of the old gearbox would suggest that it's Dyane 'box?

I had the same.. The box with thread on the input shaft was a brake-drum box in my case. I fitted it with discs...
Did run, but during drilling and tapping the thread something went wrong and the brake disc f@cked up the brake calliper...

In case you use the box with the shorter splines:
You need to fit an old type of cluth-plate (for 2cv's with a thicker/heavy flywheel/3 finger clutch).
The centre piece (wich moves over the splines on the input shaft) of those clutches are longer.

If you use a modern clutch-plate is can fall off the input shaft when the plate is worn, due to a shorter centre of the clutch-plate.

When you have a welder you can lengten de splines on the clutchplate yourself, with an old clutch.
You need to weld 8mm of an old clutch centre on the clutch you want to use.

Good luck ;)
