OK, I blew into the fuel tank like I was trying to play a massive French horn. No squirts from round the fuel tank. So to be double sure, I went to the front of the car. I disconnected the metal pipe section where fuel pipe meets chassis, and, I got a healthy gush of petrol up my arm. So, new fuel pump it is :)

While the talented among you weld bodywork, change chassis and rebuild engines, I exist at the other end of the tinkering spectrum. The jobs I put on here may seem trivial but I enjoy doing them just the same.

New fuel pump was installed this weekend. Got it all plumbed in then used the starting handle to get the petrol flowing, all coming through nicely. Then I jump in the car and turn the ignition, battery is flat as a floor in a sprit level factory in Holland, yes that flat!

My Lidl smart charger is now going to nurse the battery through the night. I’ll pop it back in the car in the morning see if we have action.

Meantime, here are some snaps from recent tinker time and days out breaking down.

May I present the next upgrade in my child seat collection, forward facing baby.

Russ, the boy gets a great view from this new seat as he is higher up.

Dave, I was enjoying my little jobs when.....

Battery charged up over night. Pop it back in the car. Engine turns over and…..no bloody petrol coming out of the sodding new fuel pump. Ahhhhh, it just ruins your day stuff like this.

Once I'd cooled down from the initial disappointment. I went back to the ECAS website and noticed a little note: do not use paper gasket with this pump. I'd noticed that no gasket came with the new pump so just re used the old one. Hmm, could this be the reason.

So back out to the garage, pump off, gasket off, adjust the little push rod thing to make double sure its at its lowest point (which is hard to feel as its only minimal movement - I did check this last time before you ask) pump back in. And due to that paper gaskets removal I now had a pumping pump.

Fired up the old bird, much quicker with a juicy battery, then a good 20 minute run down the seafront and round the town. She is now running V.sweetly :P
