Russ, stop fannying with that car - you're cursed. I got jittery when nikki was checking spark plugs at the weekend in case they stripped the threads.

I can't find anything else to fix now, just binned a pair of Firestones with good tread and fitted some part worm Mich 135s, the difference is amazing and they don't fall off the rims like the firestones do!

Fitted the Sub that Will has lent me, it's amazing now, I can hear the choooonz when I'm moving!

Hopefully, it's now ready for it's trek to czech, I'm partly excited and also partly shitting my pants, I don't have any confidence in my cars after the Bamboo, I hope the Ami will prove me wrong though...

The Ami did well on the run to Czech, I think it's fair to say we were hotly tipped favourites for utter FAIL, and thankfully we didn't have a hint of it!

Must thank Harry again for coming down and sorting it out with me, couldn't have got it there without you mate!

On the roof is a complete rear floor/seatbox section which I will have to fit at some point, possibly when I turn it into a van, probably this winter.

I've got to collect some Ami8 rear doors from Adrian (Toomany2cvs) at some point which will have the handle holes covered over and the glass removed and replaced with a sheet of steel. The rear 1/4 lights will also be binned in favour of a steel sheet, but probably fitted into the window rubbers. I'll try that first and see if it looks pants, if so I'll weld the sheet in instead.

I'm still thinking it isn't fast enough, and having driven another race car this weekend I'm wondering whether I should have words with Mr Hollis snr about one of his engines.

First of all, have a pretty picture of it in the recent snow:

Now, I've been pretty hacked off recently with my job, so instead of working, today I thought I'd just cock about making stuff for the Ami.

The plan in my head has always been to panel over the rear windows and make it into a van, I had thought about using it for work as 'a van' but I've been thinking more about using the space in the back as a bed and turning the car into a camper. I've already sacked off the rear seats and today I drew up a plan for a box section framework to form the basis of a bed. It's not quite long enough so I'll have to bin the front bench seat and tomorrow I'm off to the scrapyard to buy a pair of seats from a 3dr hatchback of some description, which will fold forward and provide the extra space I need. The bed will have a folding section behind the front seats which will flip forward when the seats are folded and provide an area to rest my tired head.

The other thing I did today was to make the panels which will go in place of the rear door windows. I found/stole some galvanised sheet from work, clamped it to the door frame and drew round it. Adding about 5mm to ensure it shuts very closely on the doorframe (to give the impression it's a van, not an estate car with it's windows plated up) I removed the glass and once the panels are shotblasted and primed, I'll be bonding them to the frames with Sikaflex sealant. This might sound a bit of an odd way to do it, but that's the same stuff they use to hold bodykits and spoilers to 'Tuning' cars, so I reckon it'll bond the sheet on no problems. This evening, I enlisted the help of Poppa Higgs who removed the rear 1/4 windows so I can use them as a template to make the steel panels tomorrow at work. Yeah, it's going to be bloody freezing driving it in with no windows, but it's kinda liberating. (I'll be taking my hat, coat and several jumpers I think)

Here are some pictures of progress so far:

Why don't 1980s 2cvs look like this when you pop the glass out?

More tomorrow I hope, when I should have made the rear 1/4 window panels and bonded it all in.
