Post Re: Belinda: on the road
Right then tonight I thought I'd have a look at the replacement wings, bonnet & grill that I got off ebay a while back. If you remember, my current wings had been chopped quite a bit at the bottom and front in order to make room for the GS engine which meant making a bracket with which to fit them to the standard chassis and a homemade grill to fit the non-symetrical front.

Initially, the "new" wings looked a right state but apart from a dodgy paint job are actually quite good and at least they are complete and have a grill to fit.

The trouble is Belinda currently has rectangular headlamps and the replacement wings have Dyane style light fittings. So my next decision is what to do about lights? In an ideal world I would like to fit standard 7" bowls so that I can fit Halogen bulbs and maybe make headlamp adjustment a bit easier. 7" lamps would also be a lot easier to get hold of in the future. The trouble is they are quite a bit bigger than the other 2 types and would look something like this (a bit silly in my mind)

I think Dyane style (like Eleanor Chubb's) would be the easiest option but I remember Uncle Ken expressing concern about going down that route (any chance you or anybody else could expand on that please Ken?)

So that really leaves me with transferrng the existing rectangular lamps over. The brackets are already in the new wings so all I need to do is shape the apertures, drill a couple of holes and fit the current brackets. I must admit I do prefer the rectangular look seeing as the rest of the car is all angles but adusting them can be a bit of a pain and I do wonder how easy it will be to replace the lenses if and when I need to again?

Does anybody have any particular views over which style would be best?

For me it's a toss up between then Dyane lights or the current retangular jobs - it's another little nod to the donor vehicle. The round ones, although easier to source, just seem to shout 'kit car'.

+1 to what Neil said, the Dyanes or the Squares look better to me than those goggly eyes in the first picture.

Another vote here for the Dyane lights.

1 Vote fore the squares as the dyane lights dont go with the rest of the car with it being so square.

I like the Dyane set up, cable height adjustment from the cab is useful, when your fully freighted with Beer/wine and some camping stuff, maybe paint the trims in a desert colour, down side good reflecters getting harder to find.
