 Re: Belinda: on the road
Right then, I've had an idea. I'll bring the tent and poles along with me and those who said Idea 1 can help me work it out on the Saturday morning. I'll provide a slab of beer for the workers and if we make it work then I'll go with it, if not it's Idea 2. How does that sound?

 Re: Belinda: on the road
Well Belinda got to the National ok although things were a little slow on the way. Strong headwinds didn't help but with a cruising speed of around 40 mph and an absolute top speed of 50, something obviously needed teaking. When I got to the camp site, I was immediately met with a couple of friendly faces.
On Saturday afternoon, Uncle Ken said he'd take a look at my timing so while he did that, I helped 2many2CVs take a chassis back to his house.
The timing has made an incredible improvement meaning I was able to happily cruise up the A1 at around 55-60mph. I even managed to creep up to a indicated 67mph on the satnav at one point and even on long hills, the car only slows to about 50.
I've also drawn some great inspiration from looking at other vehicles over the weekend, so expect a lot of activity on Belinda over the next few months.

 Re: Belinda: on the road
Bertie, for the record, your timing had about 2 flywheel teeth (7 degrees?) too much advance, which was probably linked to an 'extra wide' points gap. I'd have taken a little spin in the Bedouin to see if the carburation felt OK, but seeing as I'd had to hot wire her to set the timing, that might have been a bit adventurous... Not to worry, since you can always pick up a jet some time you're passing en route 'twixt Lincs and North Yorks and try it out yourself. ken (Those tappets still sounded a bit quiet to me, btw. Don't forget that it's not all about top speed, more about setting the engine up for comfortable cruising ) bertiewhite wrote: The timing has made an incredible improvement meaning I was able to happily cruise up the A1 at around 55-60mph. Now I've got her on the road I can tinker to my heart's content! ken wrote: Don't forget that it's not all about top speed, more about setting the engine up for comfortable cruising ) Well that's what I liked about the drive home on Sunday - she just sat there quite happily between 55-60 which felt fine and there was still a bit more to overtake comfortably. I'll have a look at my choke pull-off device tomorrow which might help a bit more??
