I had a set of those Dunlops in 10". Cost me a bastard fortune to have refurbed. Interesting idea to have a pick-up front panel, not sure it's what I've had done, but it's different. Wouldn't mind another Mini but I get poxed off enough driving my 2cv over bumps. A Mini is an advanced form of masochism.

P.S. Cheers for the pics of the missus. If my bird sat on the roof of my car I'd be bloody livid.

Ah brilliant, only just spotted your reply, I sent you a PM already.

Yes it was the one in Fochabers! What are you on about Cambells soup?? You're right it's not starting, I've ordered a new fuel pump and lines.. I have the feeling I may be barking up the wrong tree. Pipe on top of the tank?

Nice wheels, mine are 12", rare as you like, banded steels on the way though.

She did dent the roof, and yes I was bloody livid. Had to repaint it, had a dent on each corner. Masochism is underrated.

Right, I had a bit of special time with my pointy hammer this evening, and the chassis is officially for the bin, as everyone had predicted! Patches all over the place, and more rust than I initially thought. The plan has gone from rolling resto, to a full on body off restoration, new chassis and anything else that needs replacing along the way. I've waved goodbye to a holiday this year, and will use the money me and the Mrs have saved for this instead.. I'm probably mad, but I've not done a restoration to this scale for a year or so now, and I can't wait to get started! First thing to sort is a new chassis. I'm very tempted by Kens, but the 2CV City one is way cheaper, I know the quality is said to be bad, but HOW bad? I saw the chassis flex vid on Youtube, (I'm guessing that's a 2CV city one?) I'll put up a thread in Technical, to get a few opinions. I want to do it properly, but want to know what the realistic downfalls of the cheaper one is.

Conventionally, if you want to start a massive online pub brawl, you ask a group of 2cvers which chassis they think is best, preferably with one of the main protagonists being somebody who's fitted a 2cv city chassis and hasn't had any problems with it.

But still, nothing's kicked off here for a week or so, so what the hell. If I have to rechassis a 2cv in the near future, and I can't get hold of a decent original citroen chassis or a cheap used SLC then I'll be buying a secondhand 2cv city chassis and spending a few days welding some gusseting into it and doing something about the shocker mounts which have been known to fall off or break bolts in them. But I'd rather hope on finding a secondhand SLC or repairable Citroen chassis. They don't cost the earth secondhand, so if money's tight (it always is here I can assure you) then you need not despair just yet. Although avoid eBay as chassis have been known to fetch some daft money recently (£300 for one with running gear attatched, I'd rather spend another £150 and get a new one)

As a 2cv City chassis owner I replied in the technical thread with my experiences :)

I think money gives you a choice. If you don't have the money, console yourself that anything is better than the chassis it's on!

Really looking forward to this thread's progress, Peter! Especially your mention of 'plans' for the bodywork... :D Curiosity well aroused.

Ah, the ol' 'which chassis' chestnut. All I can say is that the Charlie I bought last year sports a 2CV City beast and I wouldn't be any wiser about any potential 'shortcomings' it may have if I hadn't read the numerous posts on here. Mine holds the car together, locates the 4 wheels in the appropriate places, and - you get the idea. It works. It might not be as good as other makes out there (I'm happy to accept people's opinions on that) but I also don't really expect it to let me down in any significant way either. Am I bovvered? Nah.

^^^ summed it up. Mines on an old frome chassis which im guessing are on par with the city ones. I've not had any problems with it so i can't complain, nor compare it to another chassis since i have no other experience.
