Re: Max's new Car (Still his sisters really.) Had a bit of a fettle today. Plan is to try and get this on the road for next weekend.  Only becasue of the convoy and the mention of fords and small lanes. So i've cleaned up the big hole at the back ready for welding, hopefully should be done soon. After that i thought i should check everything else. Tommorow i shall be buying a battery as its dead. Well thats a lie. I robbed the brand new one for the van.   The ride height has been winding me up for some time so i decided it was time to make it look like it was on roids... I now remember why i never did it the last time for kim... One side is stuck solid.   Heres the problem ive got. I tried to take out the supension eye so i could try and wind it up that way but it just wont move... The eye is solid, and the Knife edge wont budge from this position... Any ideas?

Re: Max's new Car (Still his sisters really.) Max, here's a trick which might work to free off the tie rod, but it involves 2 hammers... One should be a lump hammer, preferably the 2kg/4lb variety and the other a good sized ball peen hammer. Get someone to hold the lump hammer against the 'necked' portion of the tie rod end, then give the other side a few good thumps with the ball peen hammer. This not only shocks the rust which has 'frozen' the threads together, but also expands the sleeve slightly and usually does the job. ken.

Re: Max's new Car (Still his sisters really.) Almost forgot, put your mole grips/water pump pliers on the part of the tie rod where it was friction welded together, looks like a couple of bulges close together.
That way, you're less likely to damage the rod and weaken it.
