Re: My "Plums and Custard" D*lly - crashed! :(
I feel for you mate The exact same thing happened to me (see the thread on my car). I was with Churchill at the time. When the inspector came from my insurance company I gave him a list of all the new parts I'd bought, some nice pics of her before the crash and a letter from 2cv City giving an outline of her value. Damage to mine was pretty similar; bent chassis leg, crumpled sweeps, rear panel and wings so from the front she looked fine, but because of the chassis damage, like you, the cost of repairs outweighed the value of the car. I got £650 for my car Cat C, so I got to keep her. However I also got £1900 personal injury insurance which was just enough to buy a new chassis and have it fitted as well as doing the rear panel. Of course you wouldn't get that with the private settlement. Be careful with the private settlement thing, unless Terrry said they offer you more than the insurance company. You could always use that as leverage. If you don't claim on their insurance, you'll probably be saving the dad (who I guess pays the insurance) around £500 a year? Sad thing is, 2cv prices are now totally crazy. Maybe if the dad calls again, telll him to look at them on ebay? or at the cost of panels on ecas. Surely i2F could find you a chassis? If not there's always the 4x4 look Just cut the rear panel off

In the end I got £1700 from the insurance company as a payout for the car, which wasn't bad as it was very rough and shouldn't really have passed the last MOT. However I decided the car was too much work for me to do as it would have needed new floors, sills, chassis etc, as well as all the back end panels and then you would have had to tidy up the front end and have a new interior to make it as good. I have sold the car to a company that builds replica Acadiane vans - and he has promised me some pictures of it when it is finished. Realistically that is the only way D748 PJN is going to see the road again, which is what I wanted. I didn't want it broken for spares. And yes, I have bought an Austin Maestro. However I have not ruled out another 2CV in the future if I find one cheap enough I'll be back!

I think that's an excellent price, all things considered. On the other hand.....A Maestro?
