A quick update, as the landrover is still undergoing work and I sold the Vitara, the Dyane is my only car on the road now.
Had some rattling sounds and this was the big nuts holding the suspension cylinders to the chassis being loose.
I thought I had tightened them when rebuilding but maybe I hadn't
So reset them and all is good now.
Then the car became difficult to start and would cut out and took ages to restart.
I thought it was the carb but decided to replace the coil and check the ignition system first before fiddling with the carb.
Got the ignition to be correct and moved on to strip the carb , blow out jets and passages etc. no different so finally stole the carb from the 2CV which is different from the original on the Dyane.
Total transformation, starts easily and seems faster!
As I am retired now and walking the Wales Coast Path, the car has been in constant use ferrying me to various places by the sea. It's running really well.
The long pins that hold the tailgate to the bodyshell kept working loose but that was an easy fix with some metal tent pegs and little split pins. Fitted the rear seat which folds down, I didn't know that!
Gearbox crunches into first from standstill and also reverse, may steal the gearbox from the 2CV
I might get some Belgian arms as the suspension arms are pretty worn, I had to weld shrink one of them during the rebuild but there's wear again
I Must do some rust protection before the Winter Salt season begins but all in all very happy with it.
