I am taking the seats of the green 57 apart. The fabric is desintegrating after 34 years of sunshine. The fabric used was old stock, the upholsterer in France bought this from his collegues. At the time new fabric wasn't available. So the stuff might be even older than 34 years. It takes about 1.5 hours to take one seat apart. Some parts were sewn 4 times. 2 down 2 to go. I have to get the car in the garage as i have only one seat left in it... The ivory 57 has to resume work this weekend.
Here are the seats before and after.

Swapped the two 57s, the ivory one was in storage since march. It did run well till home. This afternoon it started banging again, but when i did push the choke back it runned well?? But the the idle is still a bit high so the automatic clutch didn't disengage.

The ivory 57 runned very well for 2 days but this morning the spluttering and banging occured again. With some trouble i managed to get it home. It did go no faster than 15 km/H. Grrrr. So it's wasn't the manifold than. I think the ignition cam might have come loose from the camshaft or something stupid like that... Have to check.

Got the ignition out but there was nothing wrong aparently. After a clean and new timing setting the car started and did run very normally. I also put in other spark plug cables. The only thing i did notice were 2 loose manifold stubs. Could this also have those strange symptoms?? I will have to put 2 helicoils in.

Oh yes, this could be very well the issue. What are you doing with the old fabric?

The beige rear side will be reused if possible, the red will serve a template for the new fabric, after that it will be thrown away i think.
I will have a go at the helicoil without removing the manifold....

No go, the holes in the manifold are too small to let the helicoils through. So i prepared everything to take the manifold out again. On stud came out with all the tread. One did work again. So maybe it turned it out a bit in taking the manifold out the last time. Affaire a suivre....

Helicoil is in, the car revs up very well is much more silent... Hope it stays that way. The C3 can go back to sleep, the deuche is much more fun to drive.
