Post subject:  Interior light modification

After troubleshooting that interior light (which was a poor earth all along), I decided to modify the interior lights. The switch broke eventually anyway.

I bought some of those LED strips and cut them down to about 1 meter. I got one above the front seat and one in the rear.

Then used one of those burglar alarm reed switch to trigger the lights. I used 3M sticky tape on both sides.

The LED strips fit well to the support beams but it would be nice if the switch didn't look as conspicuous but it seems to work and puts out better light. That's the only way I could figure out where to mount the switch to trigger the lights.

Before I wired in the Reed switch, I accidentally left the wires plugged up and they lights were on for 12 hours and never ran the battery down.

One of the best LED swaps I did was for the speedometer. I couldn't see with the incandescent bulb that was in it.

Would be nice to find a speedometer in MPH but after driving my Trabant and 2CV in KPH only, I'm about used to it doing the math in my head.

I doubt I'd ever get pulled over for speeding in a 2CV! I did manage it up to 70 MPH on the interstate one day.

Snapped a photo of the interior this morning in the parking lot before heading into work. This was a little after 6 am before the sun came up. These LED strips put out more light than modern cars with a center mounted dome light.

You lucky bastards in the UK. You get about 2 to 3 more hours of sunlight in the summer than we do!

I'm guessing then that you are closer to the equator than we are. The down side, is the winters of course. Not just the short days, but the temperature as well. Still, could be worse. And, we are all used to what we are used to. :D
