I like the idea of an electric 2CV, but I'd prefer a berline version.
And why does it keep the gearbox?

Maybe because of the front brakes? Easier to get it road legal, when not touching the brake system and mounting of brakes at all..?

It would be easy to have more torque what is needed, when use low gears on gearbox, but what one Finnish fellow experienced on his electric conversion, it is too easy to destroy the gearbox with low end torque. And after that, he installed GS gearbox and used only 3rd on city and 4th evrywhere else...

When I did mine I would have needed a motor with double the power if I had not used the gears. It's also much easier to make a motor adaptor to go onto a bell housing than to make your own differential unit and of course you get somewhere to mount the brakes.

Indeed, Sander called here last Thursday to collect a chassis for one of these builds, with the first off the line being a Dyane.
He and his partner are having a short break over near Shrewsbury before heading back home, so hope they haven't been too disappointed with the return of 'traditional British summer weather' in the last couple of days... ;)

YES they can easily be regristrated. It isn,t a car anymore. It is a buggy since the engine is 15kw.. Because it is a buggy you dont need airbags, tyre pressure warning aso..

The Eden isn’t a car, technically it’s a ‘quadricycle’ so has different regs to being a car, hence they are new build. They’re also limited to 50kph.

A new build Eden therefore falls into a completely different set of rules to an electric 2cv, which I imagine in theory is no different to BMW-ing or 602-ing a car.

In the UK a new build or Radically Altered Car now need an IVA.

Modified Vehicles.

Keep the original registration number
Your vehicle must have 8 or more points from the table below if you want to keep the original registration number. 5 of these points must come from having the original or new and unmodified chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame.

Part Points
Chassis, monocoque bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit) or frame - original or new and unmodified (direct from manufacturer) 5
Suspension (front and back) - original 2
Axles (both) - original 2
Transmission - original 2
Steering assembly - original 2
Engine - original 1

Having read most of the doc, a 2CV would FAIL.

Starter fo now...
Seats have no Head restraints.
Head Lamp clips protrude too much.
Door Handels protrude.
Front and Rear Bumpers ????
Over Riders???
Need side Repeaters???
Rear Fog Lamp Wired to main beam??
V5 with correct chassis number stamped into chassis
V5 with correct Engine Number.

An IVA inspection will with no doubt uncover more

In addition the Insurance company needs to know of any changes or modifications.
