Post subject:  Advice /thoughts on engine oil grades ?

Hi All
I have been AWOL for a few months , ( Pneumonia = Hospital ) missed the glorious Summer , now finishing off my 2 2cv full service that I started in early June ,last bit to do is oil & filter change , any advice or thoughts on oil grade/ viscosity ? ,
Thinking of using 20/50 , not so keen on the modern car oils 5/30 etc for a older air/oil cooled engine ,

Can open. Worms everywhere.

Why didn't you ask something uncontroversial like 'what are your thoughts on Brexit?' Or ask people about their thoughts on Marmite? You could have sat an Israeli and a Palastinian down in a room and encouraged them to enjoy a nice cup of tea whilst they wait for you to return from a search for the holy grail that you intend to fill with hens teeth. All things far easier to achieve than the answer which you seek.

The answer, of course, is 20/50. Anything else is wrong.

But then I'm a Tory voting, Brexiteering, heterosexual Christian so what would I know ;)

10W40 semi-synthetic.
Probably to be expected from a Labour voting, pro-EU, mind your own business (but a grandfather) heathen...

Basically Roco, don't worry about it.
Just put some oil in the blessed thing.
Now have a beer. On that we all agree.

You're definitely running Michelin tyres right, because you know anything else is wrong? ;)

:D Gulf Max Plus 20W-50 - 4ltr
It’s Mineral, Api Sl/Cf can get it trade price £22.95 , so will be going for that,
I don’t use Halfords I find their prices way over the top ,
BTW. My keyboard seems to have the stamers , I don’t own 22 2cv’s
Just 1 Dyane powered, rejected carb, electronic ign. & disk brakes and it still averages 44 MPG,
Is Gulf oil seen as political, as I don’t do politics or ever vote , so I can say don’t blame me for the mess this country is in , :o

Interesting. I started logging all my miles this year and analysing MPG.
My 'bitsa' - standard carb, points & condenser - is averaging 45.7mpg, sometimes achieving 47/50 on a long steady run. My car that's rejetted only does 43, and its slower. So Im beginning to think that rejetting isn't the way forward and just to live with that flat spot you get in 2nd.

FWIW, i have read (so take as you wish) recently that cheaper oil has used oil content in. (obviously purified first)

So that's good for the environment right?

Now had time to change my 75 2cv engine oil and filter , I did use the Gulf 20W 50 cheaper oil , have noticed a very slight delay on warm up time , but a much quieter engine once hot as opposed to my previously used tesco 10W 30 oil ,

had to smile at the grandfather method on recycling engine oil
