Yup, I called them my engine trumpets. Unbelievably loud. Hilarious but pretty wearing.

The old 2cv's had felt tubes with a metal spiral inside to keep them open. They are great and don't leak because they are fitted with hose clamps. I have some new ones because i had several completely eaten by moths...;-) In the 60's you could buy other woven fabic tubes. They look like firehoses. So you could go to you local firebrigade and ask for rests of damaged hoses. These had also metal wire spirals inside.
