There's been some debate on the insurance thread about travel insurance. In all the trips abroad I;ve done I;ve never had any - is it worth it? The car (and up to £1000 of possessions) are covered on my car insurance. My cameras by my home insurance and should the car die, my recovery policy will get me home... so what would I gain from having travel insurance? Is it in case I get ill? I'm confused

And (lol) how many policies are going to be totally invalidated by the fact the car doesn't lock/have a proper roof? I know my instruments aren't covered if they're in a convertible... |

Travel insurance is useful if you get delays crossing the Channel, or even if you have a breakdown, but definitely worth it for the medical insurance side of things - can get very costly if you have a serious accident - repatriation etc and for a fairly small premium - my wife and I have a joint yearly policy that costs only around £35....do a check on compare de meerkat |

Claiming on your home insurance isnt worth it though Tesco will insure you for about £20! I have insurance (travel phone breakdown) with my bank. Also have private medical insurance tol |

samfieldhouse wrote: Is it in case I get ill? That and if someone at home gets ill and you have to get back to the UK quick. I had to use it once when my car was broken into at a car park whilst I was out the the country. Paid for the flight back to the UK to secure and move it. |

Mainly for hospitalisation and repatriation. Debenhams holiday cover is about £7 a week. |
