I use one that clamps round the tow ball. I was surprised at how sturdy it is.
Will carry two bikes. Easy to fit and remove

Im looking for any recomendations for a bootlid mounted bike rack. Im in Aust so prefer recomendations for a product thats available internationally. I would not prefer a towball mounted rack, but its always an option. Due to the risk of garage related acidents, roof mounted racks are not an option. Does anyone have any ideas? Ian |

Ours was homemade out of copper pipe (by a plumber) and bolted, with weight-spreading plates, onto an old bootlid. It carries two bikes, although we usually take the wheels off if carrying two. We've been using it for 20 years now, with no problems (but our bikes are reasonably light). |

You've really got four options. 1. Generic rear end mounted rack, clips and straps. Non-starter due to the roof. 2. Generic roofrack. You'd prefer not. 3. Fabricate/source one that can be bolted to the bootlid (as Jono's suggestion). You've got to drill a (spare?) bootlid. There's a lot of stress being put on the boot hinge & on to the roof. 4. Generic towbar mount. No brainer for me. |

Why would you have to drill a bootlid for option 3? If you're making it yourself just make it so it attaches in another manner. Not that it's any of my business, jus' sayin'. I'd take option 5 which is leave the bicycle at home and drive the 2cv. I've recently become a cyclist and its a wholly distasteful and disagreeable means of moving from point A to point B. |

There's not much scope for taking the weight vertically, though - no upper lip to hook around, because of the hinge. |

Remove back seats and shove her in! Much easier than fucking around with a bike rack when it's cold and raining... Which for some reason it always tends to be when biking, Mountain Mayhem last year as a prime example! |

Bike rack on the tow bar for me. I can get a couple of bikes on there with no faffing about taking wheels off and still open the boot or even have the boot extension on there as well if needed. |

Although the roof-rack is not a preferred option, you could use one or two of my stainless roof-rack mounting brackets to attach a fixing point for something home-made. These brackets can be mounted anywhere along the roof aperture side-rail, so that includes next to the rear window, just above the boot-lid hinge, if that suits better. http://www.retrospecparts.com/citroen-parts/158-2cv-dyane-roof-rack-brackets.html You could also mount one of my stainless roof-bars across, if you want to. http://www.retrospecparts.com/citroen-parts/159-2cv-dyane-roof-bars-pair.html The only slight problem is that I've sold out and I'm waiting for the next batch to be made, but it shouldn't be too long. |
