 Garage Doors
Anyone converted a double garage with two singles doors (with pillar in between) into one double single door, I am thinking about getting it done, any pointers, anyone know anyone that does this type of thing, or knows a builder in the Swindon area etc. etc. etc.

 Re: Garage Doors
What is on top of your garage?? only the roof then it is possible however you need a 5m beam of steel to take all the extra weight..... it is going to cost much money!!!!!!
2m opening is a steel beam of 4 to 6 inches high, 5m opening is a beam of at least 12 to 15 inch high!!!! When there is more than a roof on top, height will quickly rise extra... so you need space for that, + the outerwalls must be checked if they can carry all the extra weight!!

 Re: Garage Doors
Simon, I'd reckon you'd need something slightly less substantial than ipgo has mentioned. Using the 'rule of thumb' method for a steel beam, the required depth would increase from about 100mm to more like 250mm for a 5 metre clear span, maybe as much as 300mm depending on the area of roof supported by the beam. Have you thought about giving Wayne ( of Gadget racing) a call, I gather he's recently done some work on Rick Pembro's workshop/garage? You might even get 'mate's rate', provided you've never punted him into the kitty litter... ken @ ipgo. What ya doin' confusing me with feet and inches? We gave that up for metric measurements back in 1971, or at least that was the plan...
