Please can you forward this to anyone you know with a classic car plus all your local 2CVGB group members

The European Commission is proposing to outlaw the use of any modifications and non-original components to historic vehicles by introducing the following legislation;
Periodic roadworthiness tests for motor vehicles and their trailers and repealing Directive 2009/40/EC"
Many elements of this legislation make good sense, however the legislation in its current format would immediately render thousands of historic vehicles illegal because of ‘common sense enhancements’.

This is far more important than the Paris Banger ban as it will effect almost all of us....

There's been an article in Classic Car Weekly, I think, where they speak to somebody 'in the know' and have been given reassurance that it won't be any different to the status quo. I've been more worried about this new scheme to exempt all pre-1960 vehicles from having an MOT. Turns out it's going to be unworkable in the real world because insurance companies will make it difficult to get a policy (and certainly an agreed value) without it. Was chatting with John Sobey on Tuesday and he mentioned he was having to MOT the Slough before the insurance company would agree the value of it.

what would happen if you were driving a pre 1960 vehicle on the road with no mot so therefore no insurance cover and were stopped by the police?
would they impound the vehicle?

I would have thought that at first you would have found out where you stand with your insurance; if they do anything it could be that they insist on you getting an mot anyway or at least some kind of safety test
