When it gets really cold cover the oil cooler instead like they do in Finland all winter. Nothing like short trips in cold climate will reduce the life of the engine.

Haven't fitted the one to the 2CV yet, but the C4's muff has been on since I was up in Shetland 3 weeks ago.

How many people have the time to pre-heat the engine before taking off. I guess nobody

Mine is also a 1.6HDi VTR+. The winter grill is for use on diesels, due to taking much longer to get to working temperature. I have a 5 to 6 mile drive to work, and in winter, without the grill fitted, it may show one bar on the gauge, but with the grill fitted, it gets warmer much quicker and the MPG also improves markedly.

Costs about £14 from a dealer and I'm very happy with mine.
