Thanks for the input; I know what you mean about the 'irrelevant chatter' & as you appreciate it's hard to stop - We don't want to be moaning & locking threads, deleting posts etc. I don't think that would do any good at all. TBH i think it's quite good in the respect that the majority of the posts are at least 2cv related & there is the 'Off topic' thread in the general 2cv chat forum. I guess me, Max & Russ are as guilty as anyone when it comes to posting chatter. When we started this place it was partly because we had become disillusioned with the forum we used to frequent. It had become less & less about the cars & more about day to day life. This is always the danger as a forum gains more & more members, a little off topic chit chat quickly escalates & you end up trawling through loads of threads trying to locate information on why you are there in the first place... 2cv's! We are aware that it could become a problem on here & we will be keeping a close eye on things, hopefully making sure it stays pretty much on topic.

just to add a few thoughts from me i am interested in 2cv's obviously else i wouldnt be here however as for the technical side of things and the fact that you want to make everything stay on topic its not something i enjoy i guess for me the club/forum/events are more about the social side of things for me and its probably the main reason. i like a bit of chat away from the actual cars and if this was to be moderated more then i might not enjoy the site as much as i do now. im not moaning just adding my thoughts

Thanks Louise.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with a lot of it. Do you think there is too much techy geek stuff on here at the moment?

for me yes however i just look at where i need to it doesnt bother me that its there because obviously its helpful and one day ill proably need it too.
i just think that a the chatting and socialising side needs to be kept on here i dont mind if its somewhere seperate and im not one to go and post in random threads where its not needed so no worries there its possibly one reason i do like the other forum because there is a fair amount of random chatting altho people on this site are a tad more interesting (with no offence meant to others on other forums)

Thanks for your honest opinion Louise, I hope that the site develops that way too, i mean, when I go to camps I rarely ever talk about 2cvs to people, so I think random socialising is good, but then we have to bear in mind we're a 3cv forum, so should stick to 2cvs in the most part.

Probably, at the moment, we should just leave it and see how it goes.

For what its worth I'd like to say that the balance between chatting and technical is well balanced on this forum. You need the chat to create an atmosphere that draws the members back and encourages new ones to sign up in addition to the technical side of things. I think Max Neil and Russ have done a cracking job and created a 2CV forum that seems fresh and will hopefully generate new interest into the A series. I look forward to meeting you guys at an event in the future.....

Also just thinking... my brother set up a Honda Civic forum in 2006 and there's one part of it which I think is extremely useful. He has a tab that links to the Civic Wiki which is a database of all the technical stuff and useful information/tips that members have posted. This avoids this kind of information turning into 'lost threads' and can be accessed easily. (http://www.civinfo.com/) You may be thinking of this but just thought it was worth a mention. By the way he supplements his server charges through sticker sales and google adsense links at the top of the page. If you click on the 'Press' link under 'site navigation' it gives you some information on how his forum is put together etc

Cheers
Ru
