what to do with my Dyane? age related plates or leave french
i have a 1968 4 light Dyane, it was a 425engine and gearbox car, now minus these plus front suspension as the previous owner wanted to keep those. the car is still in france but was never registered in the department its now in, so unfortunately i will lose the old black and silver old style plates should i re-register it. im thinking if i bring the car the the uk and re-register it here, i could get an age related 1968ish number for it.
if i put an non-standard engine in this car and have severla non-standard parts, will i get issued with a q-plate? i was kind of hoping it would be better to have old-style black plates on this rather than the new style french plates which are just plain ugly, but on the flip-side, it would be easier to leave the car registered in france as thats where it is.
i have read much about chassis issues regarding cold stamping on a factory chassis and non-factory chassis being not legal or recognised by the insurance companies, is this now the case? i have been away from 2cv ownership for quite a few years and never thought about this before, as my old 1959 had an ami chassis and was done by a previous owner, just swapping over the chassis and body plates, the car also ran a late m28 disc engine too, and the only trouble i ever had was trying to convince the insurance company that it wasnt a 425

Hi, If you change the Carte Gris to classic -not only can you have black and silver plates but also C.T. (mot) every 5 years and cheap classic insurance.

thanks, i think it is already classic on the carte grise, though i am sure i will lose the old style plates to the new AA-000-AA type plate, the car will really only get used in france and hardly ever in the uk. im sure i can live with the new style registration as i can run white plate all round or retro-fit the new number on black and silver plates as some do. still looking out for white or clear front indicator lenses and i have an idea for the rear lights, which may work. i hope i dont get in too much trouble with the purists as its lost its 425 engine and g box, as well as the frotteurs out front, im in need of an early stainless grille for the bonnet, as thats been taken too, and it seems, every time i hear from my dad in france, a few other bits go missing too.
luckily i do still have the early tailgate t handle and the 2cv type tubular steering wheel, so lifes not that bad
