Rhythm Thief wrote: You can get a good idea of whether the heads are leaking or not by turning the heater to hot, pulling the heater tube off at the bulkhead end and sticking your nose in it with the engine running. If you can smell exhaust gases on either side, a leaky head joint is a possibility. If you take the heat exchanger off, you can see part of the head joint and sometimes you might see black marks on the mating face of the head where the gases have been escaping. However, if you've been getting exhaust fumes in the car whether the heater is on or off, I'd be inclined to think it's just a leaky exhaust joint somewhere. Freds starting to sound like a mutant motocrosser so exhaust is sounding the likely culprit (See what I did there?) Thanks for the advice, however I have been warned it is in fact our annerversary tommorrow, and any spannering will be very much frowned upon...sunday it is then

Ah 2 Stroke didnt think of that method or the use of Budgies. If i go the Budgie method and wrap them up in tinfoil with a bit of seasoning. It could double as a Mid morning snack. Just out of Interest If you wrap a Chicken breast butterflied out in Tinfoil and get some migwire to tie it to a VW Exhaust. It is usually ready to eat withing 2 hours of Driving. or about Slough to Santa Pod (turn it at the services half way if possable) and just for the record it tastes... not very nice, Chicken with an exhaust paint sort of twang to it. The Toast Rack I designed to go on an Empi Quietpack did not fare much better mind.
