Now, that is a sexy motor. Only problem is that it would be ruined when you add a UK number plate. |

Russell wrote: What's the bike in your picture, Smiffy? It's a Killinger und Freund. The company was a 1930s alliance of five Munich engineers - who came together to attempt to create a more streamlined and modified version of the Megola front-wheel drive motorcycle. This is a Megola It took Killinger und Freund three years to come up with a completed bike. The engine was 600 cc (same as the Megola) but it was much lighter and more simplified than standard 100 cc motorcycles of the time. Here's some close-ups of how they approached the problem of getting weight and power to the front wheel: As far as I can tell, only one Killinger und Freund was ever found after the war, and this is what became of it: Don't know if it was ever put back together again! More info here and here (Until this morning I knew nothing about this amazing bike! I do a fair bit of web research for my job, and started using Pinterest just today, to see if it would help me find and catalogue interesting stuff. I use Delicious quite a lot, but since it's re-design I just find it annoying. Mostly, Pinterest's just full of pics of pretty girls in nice frocks and shoes and stuff, and poncey house interiors for arty designers, but I found this - so hey maybe Pinterest's not all bad.) |
