..

I've spent all morning looking, writing to a few dealers and the 2cvGB registrars, for an Ami Super gearbox.

My 'Super is now on the road (..albeit as an ongoing restoration) but its gearbox sounds like a 1950's school bus.

Would any of you happen to know anyone with a good Ami-Super gearbox, sitting unloved under their work bench, just waiting for a good home ?

I understand that this gearbox is the same as the GS1220 but that the main shaft is much shorter (for the Ami-Super) ?

Many thanks,

Peter

Email Rick Pembro rick.pembro@tesco.net or Phone/Text 07789 684469

My 2 teeth.
Check the oil, noise will likely be bearings, maybe clutch thrust bearing.

We drove back from St Malo to Mirambeau today, fully loaded with stuff. We even packed the void under the rear seat with clothes! 500km on D and N roads, never missed a beat. So pleased.

Correct. And you can put that shaft and bellhouse from Ami Super gearbox to GS gearbox, and then the only difference is bigger brake calibers...

As I recall, on the 1015 GS is slightly shorter gearing than Ami Super and 1220 GS, and after 11/79 1220 GS got longer gearing (very nice with 652 Visa turbo, also I have that on my Dyane IE)...

Yes, the input shaft and bell-housing (& engine mountings) are unique to Ami Supers. (You can modify GS engine mountings to fit).
I think the longer gearing was just on the GS Special from that date (but I might be wrong).
Rick Pembro rebuilt one of these gearboxes for me a while ago, for my 1.3 Ami Super.
While the bell-housing was off, I cut out a small section to allow sufficient clearance to remove the starter motor without having to remove the inlet manifold. This worked really well: I never had a starter motor fail after that!

Our monthly visit to our local classic car meet yielded some lovely stuff once more, especially this Panhard van. According to the owner only five were made by the factory, making it super rare.

Coffee and cake and handshakes all round again and this time the Pastis was produced at noon - at bit early for us so we made our excuses and left!

Panhard van is very nice but not that rare if i am correct. I did already see 3 in real life and even a pick-up so that would be astonishing no? The french post office had little fleet of them. ;)

Well we did think it a bit unlikely that of the five allegedly manufactured only one would remain! Will check in my Panhard book but I don't remember any mention of these when I read through it.
