yesterday and today my engine did cut out a the top of a hill. After a few seconds it started without problems. I think there is dirt in the fuelpump so it isn't bringing enough fuel to run at top revs for long...

Hi AZL57
Before you condem your fuel pump, check very carefully the condition of the fuel pipes. Don't forget the pipe connector at the fuel tank end.
A split pipe may not leak fuel, but can suck air causing the symptoms you are experiencing.
:)

Finished a work day with conservation volunteers, chainsawed up large logs for landlord, jumped in charleston and had fun in the rain to local town supermarket for Champagne etc. Sometimes you've just got to

Well had 2 cut outs again today one on top of the hill the other on the motorway exit. Not nice. So i took the fuel pump out and put a spare one in with a filter in the fuelline. The filter in the tank and in the carb were super clean. So that wasn't the cause. Test start the engine revved it up the filter in the line filled nicely with petrol and than 5 seconds later it was completly empty. The spare pumps membrane had gone and the petrol was squirting all over the engine. Back to square one and i put in a brand new pump from my stock. All runned well now without leaks. So testing tomorrow on the way to work. I took the first pump apart and the membrane looked a bit dodgy but no leaks. The pump valves were working very rough so they might need a clean. I will put them a round in the ultrasonic cleaner....

I'm happier with the look (than with the standard wing), and it'll be so much easier to change the wheel now ..as & when that's necessary.! It's a better fit now than the original steel panel, and it'll not rust.. 8-)

Moving on.. I've stripped off the paint of the RH side rear wing and found it to crap (manufacturing fault insomuch as it looks as if someone forgot to add the catalyst to the gelcoat and so it rippled badly and cracked. The panel is also badly distorted. :( I've had to grind most of that gel off to get down to a more stable substrate (the actual glass fibres) so now am faced with the formidable task of reshaping it  hey ho !
