 Re: What did you do with your A Series today? TBH - its had slightly, around 50mm, lowered front suspension since I bought it 4/5 years ago, doesnt ground, handles fine, tracking is OK, and goes to Richard Dalton every year for MOT and never had this before....

Re: What did you do with your A Series today? Deuche has been sat in the garage for over a week, due to work and bad weather. Today the weather was rather decent, so I decided to use it to commute* to work this morning. Couple of attempts resulted in a flat battery, so I used the Golf instead. On returning home this evening I hooked up the jump leads, started the 2CV, and shot off down to the ferry terminal and back. Was nice to see a degree of daylight still in the western sky at 5pm. Just a couple of weeks ago it was dark a little after 3pm! Give it another few weeks and I'll be able to spend some time on the Morris in the evenings. Still need to send off for a rebuild kit for the OM Series SU carburettor. *I say 'commute' but it's only four miles away and I generally pass two cars and a Post Office van going the other way, so not much of a journey.

I've been replacing the steel rear wings on Sami, my Ami-S, with grp panels. The original (1974) panel although dented and with minor rust is perfectly restorable., but I didn't want to cut and shove it.. and yet I wanted to change the design slightly - to have a rear arch cutout, not dissimilar to that seen on the M35.
Not only do I feel this helps visually balance out the car a little better, but it should also help when changing the rear wheel.
Because the standard arches are so low and closely tucked under, this involves jacking the car wwaaayyy up in the air - until the wheel drops down sufficiently to get the dished wheel clear of the brake hub & its studs. And if you don't want to scratch all the paint off the inside of the wheel, then you have to crawl under the car to see what you are doing 
The lack of lateral clearance means the Ami is even worse than either the 2cv or Dyane. And in the event of a roadside puncture (or in a field car-park as I had last year) where the ground is neither level nor firm - then jacking the car up so high is (imo) an unnecessary risk. So, it was either a case of making a removable spat, or a cut-out arch. Personally I prefer the M35 look.., which also happens to be the easier option

 But the shadow lines (edges of the relief) had been rounded off too much (not by me !). Body workers with da in hand forget the fibreglass is not steel ! - it's only as hard as body filler., so the defined edges tend to get lost.

I even think I like the look. Would be nice with a picture of the whole car from the side when work is finished.

I'll do my best to provide a picture of the rear side quarter - once it's in white primer and with the rear lamp fitted ..later this week.
Below is the front view taken on Friday. Those who know the Ami will immediately note that I've removed the (imo) ugly black rubber overriders and the excessively heavy (visually) number plate mounting.
I'm hoping to fit a period 'black on polished aluminium' number plate to the lower valance panel, but already it looks to me a very much lighter style.

The rear bumper's rubber overriders have likewise also now been removed. These cars are really quite small., and so 'clutter' like that only detracts from an actually ..not so ugly duckling.
I would like to try a pair of clear/white front indicators, rather than the amber ones - If anyone happens to be kind enough to donate to the cause. The rear lights 'chrome' surrounds have also yellowed badly if anyone has some with shiny (silver coloured) chrome.
