I couldn't imagine how much easier is to handle the gearbox with proper bracket. Only need to measure and adjust tne diff carrier bearings, then that box is ready to run...

Adjusting the C/P. Didn't remember how time consuming that was...

Image
Recommending is 0,13-0,23mm, adjusted that to 0,18mm...

And there it is, ready to get back on the road...

That box was leaking from one drive shaft, and on another drive shaft had "rattling" bearing. Also diff carrier bearings were very worn. Nothing to know about history, but now there is some miles without worry. Mixed parts from two box, 2cv6 with Ami8 C/P, will be mated with engine with some extra power to handle that longer gearing...

We went along to our monthly classic car meeting as usual yesterday, an excellent turnout this month. Enjoy!

Next plan is to:

-cut one gearbox case to see inside how it is working -educational use only
-start to trial-and-error -method with 5-speed box project
-arrange gearbox parts so they can be find easily
-the arranging is related to coming two Acadiane gearbox checking
-some minor modifications to 4x4 Dyane
-change another cyl head to P38 Range
-clean up the garage, winter is coming
-try to have MOT on Sm and two Range's
-check the snow howler is working

And, after that, the snow is melting at spring I hope... Most time may take the 5-speed hassling, and garage itself..?

Please make a topic of your 5 box project. I,M VERY INTERESTED.. Weber from Swiss made also 5 boxes, then his sons took over.. but some mystery involved.. Still you can buy them here at NL. At least they are listed....

Geo, thanks for the info. Nice "mystery" that gearchange mechanism...

The idea came some years ago, and the 5th speed could be made by adding another pair of gears (so called 3rd gears, from back of the box) from 435cc box. So the gearing should be "rising at the same curve" than all other four...

And when looked those sites Geo put, Weber had same idea. There is enough space for the extra gears, just measured the parts yesterday. There is couple of issues to solve, easier is how to engage the gears, much harder is how to operate the engaging. Is it necessary to make that kind of mechanism, or is there another way -time will tell that...

I have made a scetch about gearing, but can't find it now. I'll put it there, or on a new topic, when I find it...
