^ Some things don't photograph very well, but let's just say that the rear cross bar and tailgate are beyond repair. In several other places there's holes through where there shouldn't be, and the bottom of the bulkhead (resting on the chassis) is crumbling to a point where the gear change is stiff. Aside from that and a crackling-when-pressed top plate of the chassis (in the footwells) she's actually not bad at all. Certainly would be practical and even economical (within market prices) to repair, but that's not what I signed up for.

I hope you didn't pay too much as that sounds like a heap of cash ready to be spent.......

I don't know - what is too much for a tidy from 15ft away '82 LHD Dyane with c.100k miles, a brand new MOT but which imo needs floors, lower bulkhead, chassis top plate, spare wheel well floor, rear window surround (corners) and a patch under the windscreen, the rear roof's cross bar and a decent tailgate panel (resprayed). ?

if it were an economy model modern car then it would be worth £50 for scrap, but for an A-series.. even the far less fashionable Dyane ? Of course it's now got to a point where parts value are high so the 'value' of a supposed roadworthy* car reflects that.

* I have no doubt that my own MOT station would fail this car on its present body to chassis insecurity.

But the point is that I didn't want nor can I afford the cost of a restoration. I just wanted a very simple roadworthy* car that I may maintain, live with and to enjoy the drive, to steadily improve and keep on top of ..rather than to parade as if it were a designer handbag.

If you are handy with a welder, then anything is possible at a lower cost if you can fabricate panels, if you have to buy them, then not so cheap - from my experience, and cost, doing the work you have described is likely to cost significantly more than £1000 if done in a garage

Yes, I had thought that sort of money too, perhaps closer to £1500 with the tailgate. I have a boat, an old motorcycle, and an Ami-super mid restoration that will keep me busier than I have time for, so I really didn't want another project., just a little ol Citroen A-series to enjoy.

^ Wish I could help, nice looking car. Possibly your only option now will be paying a recovery service. I ended up having to do this for a parts car of mine and only to move it across town!
I think they do around £1 per mile if its a journey. Mine was a set fee because it was short.
If you do that, I found it easier to try the small companies rather than the big arsey ones.

It does'nt cost a great deal to hire a car [transporter] trailer.
Typically .... [one here at £57 for the day]

A quick search on Google should find your nearest hire place.

Had a call this morning from the shipping company who wanted payment

.as the car is now in Zeebrugge
..and is expected to arrive at Tilbury around midnight
... so will be available for collection any time Friday. :)

I have no towing hitch on my 'other' car so hiring a trailer doesn't work for me at this time. So I think I'll be paying someone. £1 per mile is the price I've been quoted but it's now a question of whether he is available at such short notice.
