Pre 1960 cars no MOT, Post 1960 need a new MOT every 2 years. Cars younger than 30 years once a year.

So buying a pre 1960 2cv, and using it every day can be pretty cheap..
But we then still have a insurance issue, with a maximum mileage (on paper that is). Not that the insurance companys check that....

That'll increase the price on the open market of pre-1960 cars and motorbikes, regardless of make/model.

It'll certainly increase the price of V5s and Vin plates. I don't think this is a good idea, although it hardly represents a massive percentage of the UKs cars.

My brother has recently sold his rather shonky 1955 Morris Minor that's been rotting into the drive for the past 2 or 3 years. I'll have to tell him that if he kept it he wouldn't need an MOT on it come November

I wonder about registration transfers too. You only used to be able to transfer from an MOTd car before, wonder how that will work now?

I believe it's also very similar in France, Belgium and possibly Germany too.
How generous of the government, you might think, but the UK politicians are up to their usual smokescreen tricks here by appearing to be doing something to benefit 'the people' when in reality this is likely to be initiated as a result of MOT (or equivalent) tests throughout Europe being 'harmonised', so the UK Govt. is in effect being forced into this as a result - they'll never admit that one, of course. Good news though, however cynical you might be!

I'm not so sure about that. While I can well believe that the vast majority of those who run pre - 1960 cars have the attitude and the aptitude to service them properly and keep them roadworthy with or without an annual MOT, I can also well believe that this is the beginning of the end for those who use classic cars as transport rather than as museum pieces. Anyone like to lay odds on being able to get insurance cover for commuting in a pre - 1960 motor next year? Anything that marks us out as somehow different from other road users is a bad thing.
