Google translation;

2CV smashed the van
A Citroen 2CV crashed Friday morning with a van on Farumvej-sensor. There were fortunately no one was seriously injured in the accident

Bet the driver's got quite a headache though, looking at where the steering wheel ended up. :(

Jesus!
Too right Ken, I'm glad both drivers are ok though.

Nice to see the 2cv stood up well to the impact, the front 'crumple zone' doing it's job and leaving the 'safety cell' with very little distortion. I wonder(hope) if the position of the steering wheel might be to do with the front axle being pushed back, and the column pivoting about the top mounting.

Probably better than having it come through the bulkhead onto your feet though?

Joolz,
from what I've seen, it's chassis which are already weakened by corrosion which allow the front axle mounting point to be pushed back or to rotate in a head-on crash.

If you have a look at the article on Jeroen Cats' site and study the photographs, the position of the steering wheel does not appear to have altered...

Also worth having a look at the chassis crash test videos which Mehari Cassis have on Youtube.

The three types of chassis (origine, cataphorèse & galvanisé ) have different results in frontal impact testing, which is to be expected since they also have different results during torsion testing.

The question might be, which one did they submit for TÜV approval, given that TÜV require all of the physical characteristics of a replacement chassis to be within 2.5% of those of a Citroen 'original' chassis? :roll:

You could have that back on the road in a day.
