 New member... from Greece
Hello to everybody!!! My name is Andreas and I'm writing from hot and sunny Greece. I am a (not so proud) owner of a 2CV6 1979 with a Visa 652cc engine on.
Propably, this is not the apropriate place to post a new topic but I am pretty unexperienced with your forum (although I've done some reading first). I seem to have a reoccuring problem with the timing sensors. I do not know what to do. Moreover I cannot seem to ffind them as a part no more (3 wires). Do you suggest any solution? Do you know where I can find these sensors? I've tried all the sites I could (frazose, burton etc)
Thanks

Welcome to this forum, a sea of infomations here. My advice is to toss out your computer system, one day you may get stuck on the road away from help. Buy this conversion kit allowing you 2 options either points or electronic ignition. http://www.pp-2cv.be/FR/News/adaptateur ... lumage.htm

Hi, If you have the old (broken) item, try taking carefully apart. I believe they may be a VR sensors. You could possibly adapt a sensor from a Ford "VR" sensor available all over. Cheers Peter

andreasozzy, if the sensors (capteurs) or control box ( calculateur) keep failing, has any welding been done on the car? When welding these cars, as well as disconnecting the battery, you also need to unplug the control box as I've learned to my cost... Both the control boxes and sensors show up on Leboncoin and Ebay.fr, just keep watching for a bargain... http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres ... a+capteursNew sensors listed at ECAS. http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/timing-se ... p-199.htmlIt's possible to use 2 wire sensors on three wire sockets and vice versa, by making up a changeover lead, as the third wire is only a supplementary earth and can be ignored. Those adaptors for converting Visa engines to run with 123/DG or Lumenition aren't any good with points, as the points cam will run eccentrically. The points option is solely for diagnostic purposes, unfortunately. ken

I would hesitate buying these particular parts on Leboncoin. Some parts may be faulty or not tested but if you are prepared to take the risk, go for it. Another thing is that you will find 3 computers not the same. From memory some can't just be swapped around, correct me if I'm wrong Ken.

 Re: New member... from Greece
I'd agree that it can be a risk buying from Leboncoin, just like Ebay, but so far I've been lucky. Earlier this year, I bought a pair of sensors and a control box for a friend with a 652 engine in his car and they worked fine for his trip to France this summer. In theory, there are different advance curves programmed into the 2 types of control box, with the VA1-VD1 giving a bit more 'go', but the VA4-VD4 type seem to work just as well in our car. Fast enough for my son to get a speeding ticket for 78 mph on a 60 mph dual carriageway anyway. There are always 2 spare boxes in the car, plus a bag of sensors and a spanner to suit, as the AA/RAC wouldn't have much of a clue if something went wrong with a 2 pot Visa... ken. 2CViking wrote: I would hesitate buying these particular parts on Leboncoin.
