I'm also 50+ and just returned to 2CV's after 20 yrs
slower and nosier than I recall !Still a lot of fun though.......As mentioned, no airbags or ABS, just adapt your driving style to suit !

Hi there I am 50+ and in my youth had several Dyanes and built a Dyane on a Ami 8 chassis [ 1015cc 4cyl ] which I took to the 1985 Worlds in Cheltenham. Now ? well I am wondering if I can drive a 2cv again ? I admire the simplicity of the engineering and ingenuity of the design but concerned at the lack of protection should you be involved in an accident ? especially a side incursion ? So questions:- Can a roll cage be fitted to a van ? would it give me some side impact protection ? Do anyone like nearby [ Nottinghamshire ] and would let me drive theirs to see what it is like 26 years later ? regards Paul |

Hello Paul, as for safety, simply don't crash it. I have a roll cage in my 2CV and it's a massive ballache, in the event of a crash I'm much more likely to be hurt by the rollcage than I am be saved by it. They're so light they bounce out of the way when they're hit. You could fit a rollcage into a van but personally I wouldn't bother. There are a few 2cvers on here from Nottingham, maybe one of them would be happy to let you have a ride in their car again. I can't imagine much has changed, they're still rattly draughty leaky heaps of shit, but with boundless charm. |

Hi Paul,as the guys have said,they are flimsy vehicles,but as they are so slow,reaction times to an incident can be as slow as you like(within reason)  .I too was concerned about crashing in one,but once I'm behind the wheel I don't even think about it anymore  .Too busy enjoying myself,just love these little cars.Go on,buy one.You know you want one .Oh,I'm 54 and its my first 2cv

Hi all thanks for your replies , to be honest it is not my driving that worries me !!! It's the others that don't understand tailgating is dangerous or that being in front of me is their only ambition at what ever the cost. I will keep my eyes open for one. regards Paul |
