Post Newbie - Revisiting an old flame....wise move?
Hi Folks,

Gerry here, live near Glasgow.

Former mulitiple 2cv owner, contemplating rekindling an old love, but is it wise....Am I just looking back on my yoof with rose tinted specs? Will I be disappointed....(Maybe some kind, local soul could take me out for a wee spin in their car, spin in the NG offered in return ??)

I had many 2cv's in the past ....Starting around '81 with a very bright yellow one, (Club?). Had her for a long time, did around 50k miles, had a few bumps, replaced sills, clutch and had loads of fun adjusting the drum brakes every month !

Then a matching blue pair for me and the wife, (specials ?), followed by a Bamboo. I held on to my blue one.....We moved house during that period and for around 4 years, I only had a drivers seat, the rest of the space was taken up by sundry building materials. I even had an entire bathroom suite in there, including bath and shower tray!!

Then followed some Visa's, before I got a company diesel Cavalier.....

So, time rolls on, get the old modified car bug, starting with 48 Pop....

Model Y and also the Amazon

And a bare metal resto on a very very rusty '72 500

THEN....

A current project

and the summer fun

The NG will be going on eBay soon and I'm feeling the need for another 2CV !! (anyone fancy a swap?)

Don't mind some work, I can weld and paint but would prefer a wee rolling resto rather than a full body off job :) Getting too old for that malarky. I work for a Dutch company and spend a lot of time in Den Haag, Have considered looking for a car over there, any thoughts or advice?

Cheers
Gerry

In my experience it was a very wise move.
I went without from 1990 to 2007.
No looking back now.
Can't get enough of it.
It's the only car I've got back behind the wheel of after many years and found it's actually better and more fun than I remembered.

Nice collection you have there :) I think a 2cv would fit in well!

What's the VW/porche thing?

That WAS the collection over a 15\20 yr period, usually 1 or 2 at a time ! Only the NG and the 356 Speedster rep remain.

The Speedster came from Florida and has never been on the road. I'm building it to full IVA standard. Its nearly done, (despite appearances :) )

I only just have space for 2 cars, so the NG will be going...leaving a space for.....

Hoi Geert !

I should point out that my Dutch is virtually non existent, My Dutch associates all speak perfect english !

I'm in Rijswijk this week, Maybe a Dutch member can point me in the direction of a nice 2cv for export to Scotland :)

Dank je wel !!

Depends on your budget..
2cv prices in holland start at €3000-3500 for a decent one, and going up to more than €10000.

if you want a really good (and expensive) one, contact Sander Aalderink from eenden garage
(www.eendengarage.nl)
he has really nice 2cv's for sale

Well, Thats the NG sold so now seriously looking.......

I looked at at a 2Cv yesterday, and had a chance to drive it ! it all came flooding back and I did not miss a gearchange :)

I forgot how noisy they can be......I was also very very bouncy more than I recall....(Knacked shocks) ?

Car I looked at was OK, Galv chassis and ran fine.....but...lots of "overpatching" on floors, A post, cills etc. Price was around 1600. I'm thinking about it but I think if I'm going to have some work to do, Id rather start with an honestly rusty car rather than a patched up version....Though this one had an MOT

Will see a "fullly" restored one at the weekend

So if anyone has an honest car for sale, just let me know !

Cheers
Gerry
