Post subject:  A couple of probably newbie questions
I've only had the 2CV for a year and most of that time its been in bits but its just gone through its mot and its summer (well nearly) so my first question is how does the roof go back to the rear window? I've had it as far back as the front doors but cant see any way of fixing it securely further back?
Secondly i've got a very strange noise coming from the drivers side front. I had to get a new wing and have fitted that no problem but every time I go over a speed bump even slowly or turn sharp right I get a "doing" as if somnething is catching. I've looked underneath and cant see anything obvious, any one have any ideas?
Sorry if these are really bog newbie questions, i'll only ask them once, honest

As it happens I was just about to open the roof :lol:

So:

You should have some press studs above the rear window (don't google 'stud poppers'...) :roll:

Attached to this is a strap (you may need to buy new ones, Matt's Soft Tops make nice ones)

Air freshener device optional, although I recommend yankee candles 'vanilla cupcake.'

Outside, you have another press stud. This also holds the hood in place above the rear window.

Roll the hood back (some people roll it 'inwards' others roll it 'outwards') and take the strap from the insode, over the hood and click it onto the outside stud.

Sounds like the inner wing hitting the drive shaft. If you look down towards the drive shaft, how close is the 'sticky down bit' that goes either side of the shaft? I bent mine out of the way :lol:

Watch the inner wing doesn't rip the rubber driveshaft gaiter to bits. Do you know how to disconnect the hood from the front bar that holds it in place above the windscreen?

If they are 2cvchitty wings, they foul on the actual suspension arms towards the footwell side of the car - you have to bend the flat bit away from the arm....know by experience!

Sam,

That'll look a lot neater if you remove that screw, stick the material down, then put the screw back in, over the material...

Thanks for the replies, I found the strap, I thought they were just hand grabs but I dont seem to have an outside stud just the 2 studs inside to make a grab strap. I think the bottom of the inner bit of the wing is catching on the chassis, I have tried pulling it away and will see if any improvement tomorrow.
Presumably with the 2 studs on the inside I could roll it inside but that wouldnt look very good.
