I didn't really want to drag up another thread on insurance so im going to tag it on here,

Does anyone have any experience with insuring a car when your abroad for more than 30 days ideally for the whole year? Footman/Peter James wont touch me because its more than 30 days.

My policy expires on 24th so need to get something before we go on the 8th.

Cheers,

MAx.

Just renewed my policy. Peter James wanted to up my D*lly's insurance to £450  from £375

I rang Bishop Calway who insure Hetty and they agreed to do me a combined policy for £170 covering both cars, both on agreed value :D :D :D

That will come into effect in May when I'm 25 so they offered to insure the D*lly until May for £40!!!! :D :D :D

Can't recommend them highly enough, great service!

That's another thing that seems to have changed recently. When I was working in France in 2010, FJ insured me for the duration without quibble. I tried to do the same last year, and they wouldn't do it. I then rang Peter James, and they managed to get the cover for me, for an extra £50 over the normal premium, if I switched my insurance to them. I felt at the time like they were bending over backwards to get my custom, and that they probably wouldn't do it again, as they use the same underwriters as FJ. It seems I was right, but it also seems that the rules can be bent if you try hard enough.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Thought I would resurrect this thread. Got my insurance with Allianz (read Lancaster)for £220 with breakdown etc, so not too bad... whopping £600 compulsory excess mind, rather scared to take poor Donna out with that over my head. Roll on next year when I'm 25!

M insurance was due last week

No one would quote for classic as per usual. Tried every single one of them

My renewal price with admiral they sent in the post was 830. After arguing 730 so sod them. Compare the ferret site got it down to 650 with e-car, and then added my mum and it's down to 550!! Nice!!

Interesting, Allianz underwrite my policy too, although I managed to escape with a £300 excess I think.
