right so my car is in need for new wheels, and tyres, as the side walls arent in best of nic, showing there age (22 years old!!) and wheels have the usual rust, its not that bad yet, but isnt briliant,

and id like advice as to bite the bullet and go michelins, or for another brand of tyre, as i cant really afford to buy £160 of wheels and 400 on tyres, so a cheaper solution for the tyres would be greate, but if michelins are the best on life exspectancy etc then ill have to get them i geuss....

toyo's are fine at at least half the price of michelins - they are the stock racing tyre this year so can't be too shabby

I had Mabors, and now Toyo's on my pick up.
Mabors are good, but in the wet they loose grip very easy.
With the Toyo's no problem so far, even at a bit higher pressure (1.8bar).
Also looks like the Toyo's wear lesser than the Mabors. I've binned the Mabors after 25000km. Toyo's done twice as much and still look good.

Orderd recently four Toyo's the Ami.

I had firstones, but they are done in a short time. Also is the tyre one size smaller (125).

My Ami has Mabors and my 2cv Toyo's. Both good tyres, but the Toyo's have a little more grip. So Toyo is the better choice and Mabor a good alternative.

My Michelin's are really good looking ;)

I must admit i use Toyos because they're cheap. I think the wear reasonably well, although their grip in the wet isn't that good. If money was no object then i'd use Michelin - they look 'right' & grip well, especially in 135 form.

Listening to the commentary on the 24hr race it would seem that several cars have been in for tyre changes (the new 'control' tyre is Toyo), when usually a race could be completed on one set.

im after grip, well im sure most people are when they buy a tyre but im sure you get what i mean!

do you think that the grip difference in the wet is substansiale (spelling!) enough to make it worth wile the difference?

Mabors are ok, but if you can I'd try and get mich 135s atleast at the front. We had firestones on the charleston and they were shite apparently, although I dont know if you can get them anymore anyway?

Yes, but production has moved and the rubber compound has changed - not a patch on what they used to be, apparently.
