DVLA targets engine changes
Practical Classics has received reports that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is refusing to issue V5C registration documents to owners of re-engined classic cars - unless they can show the exchange engine's history.
The move is understood to be one of a raft of measures designed to help prevent car and component theft by introducing an element of traceability into the system.
Classic car owners will now have to give details of the engine's supplier, along with full details of the car that it came from. Failure to supply this information could render the re-engined car unusable on UK roads. This means an end to the installation of used engines, which have sat around in garages for years, waiting for their moment to come once more, even if they are of the same type. It also prevents enthusiasts re-engining their cars with used engines of a different specification -such as V8s in MGBs and TR7s. [And indeed BMW or GSA engines in 2CVs.]

Drill out rivets and refit the original engine plate (the one that matches the V5 document) onto whatever engine you have fitted. In most cases, nobody will know or care.

So true, that particularly applies over here. The French don't give a toss to laws that are just plain stupid.

Russ, I think you're beginning to get it. There's something very wrong happening in this land, and yet most of those that see it either choose to ignore it, or consider it no to be concern of theirs as it doesn't affect them directly. You're more likely to be arrested by a policeman these days than see one investigating a crime on your behalf.

Little by little ordinary decent folk like yourself are becoming increasingly aware that something just doesn't add up, and long may this continue, until eventually the lies via statistics that we are fed by our leaders will be exposed as such.
