just to let you all know the slough has started and drives under its own steam. the first time since i dont know how long. I hope as many of you as possible can make it to reg day in a months time to see it. its been a long hard journey but its finaly finished. my lap top dont like photos but i see what can be done sometime. on a different note russ asked for interesting cars. what about the rhd ami 6 |

I can stick some pictures up of the slough if you like? It would be nice if you could start a thread in the 'Your A-series' section - it has an interesting story & you guys have worked miracles, i'm sure everyone would be interested to read it's rise from the ashes... |

Looking at that car two things hit me, the first was the thought "God I wish I could have used 2 pack paint!" as it's so much more durable, and the second was "How pure that interior is to the car's original concept"  Beautiful car, tell us more!

ok Ill fill you in a bit of history. Dad always said he'd like an oldie but as always it needs to be RHD. He needs it to be because of his disability its easier for him to drive. So an oldie RHD that'll be a slough built then. After a while it was thought that 1 couldn't be found, then a call was made to a guy in stroud just up the road from us who said he had 1 but was in such poor condition he was going to 602cc it, etc, etc! Well to cut a long story short we convinced him to sell it to us. Yes the body was well knackered rusty and had been in a crash at some point, but was generally complete with all the slough features more or less there. The opening rear windows interior dash parts. The front seats were from a bijou (sold to bijou owner) and original rear seat. The roof, door cards and seat covers were sourced by matts soft tops. A new chassis was purchased from ecas and all the running gear was swapped over. The old spring cans were shot with rust so its using later 1s untill some old type are found. Next the engine and box were replaced due to individual issues regaring both, resulting in replacements needed. These were then cleaned etc ready to be fitted while the body was off at Pete Abbouts being repaired. Pete told us this was the worst car hes ever fixed it was that bent and rusty. 2 and a half years later the car comes home and we carried on fitting the bits back together. If you can call it lucky the car came home just after my car crash in jan so i was off work for 6 weeks, enough time to get most of it done. It really has been a lot of hard graft to get this car back to this condition not to mention dads bank account has taken a real kicking. i will try and get more pics on here or failing that it will be at reg day from sat afternoon so you can see for yourselves. we have tried to make the car as close to original as possible. This write up doesn't come close to the amount of work that was involved to get what was effectivly a basket case back on the road. I get to drive it to the MOT station tomorrow cant wait and i let you know how it gets on! |
