I have scraped to many people up after road accidents to condone such things.Come folks lets except that speedos by design read high, also that satnavs can lag behind a little.More to the point lets drive our great cars with a little more common sense please I get what you're saying, but at least my 2cv speedo is surprisingly accurate. When the needle is right above any of the dots or lines, the gps reading is off by no more than 0,5 kmph (keeping a steady speed). Almost all modern cars that I've tested for a lying speedo indicate around 5 kmph too much regardless of the speed, so it's not that they are inaccurate, it's just a safety margin. It also makes sense at 50 kmph, which is the city limit for most of Europe I think, because the kinetic energy of a car going 45 is no more, no less but 20% smaller than of one going 50 (compare 45 squared vs 50 squared), which also means significantly less casualties in collisions with pedestrians. If I remember correctly, death rates in collisions with pedestrians (with normal reaction time and braking) for "european sized" cars are around 30% at 30 kmph, 50% at 50 kmph and even over 70% at 60 kmph, even though 60 vs 50 doesn't seem like much of a difference. I wish drivers in Poland respected speed limits at all, even if just in cities. We have one of the worst or simply the worst statistics in Europe regarding deaths in car accidents. Over 4000 every year, which is over ca. 110 per million of Poles, just because everyone seems to be in such a bloody hurry all the time. And for some of them, the slooooow 2CV is like flipping the finger right in their face, thay can't stand driving behind me Ending this little OT, the only other car that I've tried and has a remotely accurate speedo (to within 1-2 kmph) is another Citroen, a C4. But we all know that the French are just too crazy to care about rubbish like safety margins Anyway my freshly renewed 602 engine with increased compression just won't let me reach more than 100 kmph even though it really pulls well in low revs, so next in line is a proper cleaning of the carb and increasing the size of at least the primary main jet (to a recommended 107).

Re: Show us your speedo.
This photo is so old it was taken on a throwaway camera, so sorry it was a bit blurred, If memory serves the road was a bit bumpy and the suspension was doing a riverdance.
