Seems that the DVLA has some serious problems with regards to the requirements that they set out of SORN declarations:

I wonder if anyone who has paid a fine for SORN could go back to through their records and discover that they did actually declare, and get a refund?

Just a thought, since I guess quite a lot of us on here have cars on SORN.

I got a £40 fine on a Corsa I had for a couple of days. Corsa cost me £30. Ditched it in a field (I realised the error of my ways) then the tax ran out after I'd forgotten about the car and the DVLA slapped a fine on me. Cocks.

Since when was the postal system infallible?

Mmm. Not all DVLA local offices seem to be equal... When I was registering the Slowlex, I was sat there for about five hours waiting to be called. They'd put the paperwork down on the side and forgotten about it. Then there was the saga of getting the 4x4 logbook to say "4x4". Two inspection visits (they lost the first report), a change in house number on all the letters they sent me from 38 to 8 (despite the logbook being correct), and a general air of incompetence and indolence. Thirteen months into it, I involved Swansea. A week or two later, it was sorted.

As for SORN - do it online. Simples.

I'll agree with that, since the start of this year I've used the DVLA's website to tax my cars, and I'll never again bother with a post office, it's just so much easier.

Is it? I went to tax the acad online and it won't let me because they say it's not mot'd? It was the local dvla office in sheffield that saw the mot and updated their system to give me a new registration. Post office for me.
