So has anyone put an A series through a car wash?

Having only owned a 2cv and having parents that just don't believe in the notion, until today, I had never been through a car wash. I took the rental bore-mobile through and wow, for £5 the car is nice and shiney :)

What a terrifying experience!!! Jets of water, steam, vibrations, horrible noises... seriously I was terrified! Now I know why I've never subjected the 2cv to that - and also I get a kick from cleaning my car.

But... has anyone ever taken a 2cv through a car wash... what was it like...?

I've been through one in the pug 106, thought it was good but i could do better ;) i'd never put the 2cv through it'd rip the headlights, wipers and mirrors off i think and mine leaks far to much for all that water coming at you

I've done it a few times with no problems.

I just folded the mirrors flat and parked the wipers vertically by turning off the ignition with the wipers going until they sat just right. It's vital that the front door windows have the foam draughtproofing strip fitted between the upper and lower halves though or else things are going to get a bit damp inside...

And also if you forget to close your roof. :)

1. Being able to drive Belinda after all she's been through is enough for me - sod cleaning her

2. I was never brave enough to subject my previous A series to a Car Wash

3. I decided to take an 18 month black 8M3 to a car wash once just before a buyer came to look at it. Big mistake - scratches all over. I've always hand washed cars ever since.

I once took an Ami Super with the usual roof rail rot through a car wash.........

I came out as clean as the car!

Prior to having the 2cv restored in 2008, I quite regularly put it through a car-wash, but a few times the car-wash broke because a 2cv is so narrow, when the wheel scrub brushes deployed, they were unable to find it and the machine went on to "Error" mode

Sam, if your car has a new lick of paint, don't do it!! The rotating brushes on a car-wash will put swirls in the paint(scratches).

I'm reluctant to put any car through a car wash, it's far nicer and also kinder to the car to get up early on a sunny day and do it before work, I reckon.

The biggest downside to hand washing your car is that you start to notice all the little things that need attention. Or is that a advantage? :?
