Post NEW CHASSIS
Dear 2CV friends,

Recently I bought a nice 2CV in the UK with the intention to import
it into Holland.
Being Dutch I thought it would be funny to drive a RH 2cv over here.
Unfortunately the Dutch RDW ( is DVLA in UK ) noticed the new
chassis is not a genuine Citroen make.
Now I need a statement that it is allowed in the UK to use a galvanised
Wheels Chassis. Only then It is possible to get official Dutch papers for it.
Anyone has a solution for my problem ?

Regards,
dutchrob2cv

Hi Rob, you might find you have a bit of a problem.

There are many galvanised chassis's made in the UK but there is no requirement [as far as I am aware] for any certificate of conformity.

Regardless of the brand I don't think you will get a document that will help you.

It is different here in France where replacement chassis's have to be certified.

Best wishes

Paul

un châssis non originales faudra un certificat d'homologation nécessaire pour le passage du contrôle technique en france

or it will need a visit to D R I R E who will inspect it on the vehicle and may or may not pass it.

but you know that, so we await your contradiction with baited breath

One thing is what the law tell us, another what reality is. The only original chassis made in France comes from Cassis.
Contrôle Technique is turning a blind eye to whatever is found underneath the car. Ask TPV, 2CV City and our 2cv business, we sell supply and install none original chassis on hundreds of A models and never have any problems what so ever. Our Contrôle Technique guy has inspected our work shop and our pile of mixed chassis. His comment is that a chassis is just another part so don’t worry, be happy.

I'm no expert Rob, but if they want proof that "it is allowed in the UK to use a non original chassis"

Isn't the UK MOT certificate of that car, proof that it is legal to run that car with that chassis in the UK, if that is what they are asking?

There will probably be someone more knowledgeable than me along soon to comment :)

Chris

Rob,

in the uk we can use whatever we want under our 2cvs, providing it will pass an mot test. Therefore we have no documentation or certification legally required to use these chassis on our cars.

I'm not sure what sort of certificate you will need, one from the chassis manufacturer? One from VOSA/MOT?

I'm quite happy to help out but I'm not sure what you need to do is possible here.

There are quite a few now homologated in France.

That might be the case up north but not everywhere and doesn't help Rob with his problem.

If, as 2cViking says, CT are turning a blind eye, to the letter of the law, if the car is in an accident, how would French insurance companies act? Would they worm their way out of paying, because it's non-original and not type-approved? If so, then that is a major issue, I guess. Though it could also apply here, in the UK, if an insurance company was wanting to be arsey.

Hmmm, good example of a wandering thread!

Dutchrob is in Nederland so what happens in France is of little or no concern, the Wheels chassis is made in Belgium these days by A.M.I.S., see here: http://www.amis.be/, you might get some help from them!

Perhaps a forum boxing match at the French National.....
