or you could just stamp the number on a bit of alloy - i'm not saying it's right, just i've owned & mot'd a 2cv with a chassis plate like this & have seen similar on other A-series... ;)

I've been sent back from an MOT to stamp the number on a bit of alloy. As far as I know, there's no rules as to how it's displayed, just so long as it is. :)

I don't think it's a crime to make your own one up, just so long as it's not part of an attempt to defraud or something equally naughty.

I'll get some pictures of the plate on the Ami tommorow, its just a bit of ally I found on the workshop floor!

(its big so you can't see the 'other' chassis plate I forgot to remove...)

They are fussy and i am sure it has to be on a proper plate. We just take the last Mot with us and he just types in the number on to his computer and voila.

Is this for an older car? I thought that later 2cvs only had plates on the bulkhead? My 74 has one on the chassis - well, it did. That plate hasn't made it to the new chassis just yet. The 89 didn't have one on the old chassis at all.

i'm sure mid 70's 2cv's had the above type black n' silver plates rivetted on he bulkhead as the plain alloy ones of the 80's - if you can get away with a bit of alloy with some very amateur looking stamping on it, i'm pretty certain you can pull off an earlier type plate...?
