Post subject:  D*lly Lovers Thread

Here's a thread for those of us that love our Dollys.

Although often referred to as D*lly Wollies we are, in fact, 'normal' 2cv drivers who either have a soft spot for our delightful Dollys, or by our circumstances, simply bought a 2cv available at the time and have grown to love it.

We may be criticized for our too wide headlamp bars, thin Portuguese metal and lateness on entry to the 2cv seen, but we love our cars and they love us.

So here's to the swansong of the Citoren 2CV, the last breath of a model of car that had been around for the greater part of the 20th Century.

Bring me some D*lly Love :)

To be fair, that's not exactly unique to the tarted-up multi-coloured naffness that is the D*lly.

WOAH who's was that and how did that happen?

I'd be interested in some Green/White panels, particularly doors if any were available.

and seriously Neil, that's like anti-porn

Why doesn't the swear filter work any more? It would nip threads like this in the bud!

The real story behind the D*lly is as follows.

Towards the late 70s and early 80s, some of the top brass at the 2cv building dept at Citroën realised that the beloved little 2cv would not be around forever, and that sooner or later, production would be stopped. This would mean future generations would struggle to keep thier 2cvs going and eventually spare parts would be hard to find. They hatched a plan to build a flimsy, low budget version of the 2cv which would rot away and fall to pieces really quickly, to ensure nobody bothered to fix them they gave it a preposterous name and a comedy paint scheme. Thanks to these cars, there are now many spare axles, engines and gearboxes for those of us with normal 2cvs to use, thus keeping real 2cvs on the road for many years to come.

They tried this scheme earlier and called it project Dyane, which was a similar method to ensure plentiful future stocks of Ami engines.
